Two Regional Governors Get Ministerial Appointment

President Barrow has appointed regional governors Rohey John Manjang and Sheriff Abba Sanyang as Ministers in his new cabinet.

Rohey John Manjang, who was the Governor of Lower River Region, is appointed as the Minister for Environment and Climate Change; and Sheriff Abba Sanyang, Governor of Central River Region (CRR), is appointed as the Minister for Local Government and Lands.

In the past, Sheriff Abba Sanyang, served as the National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala under the APRC from 2007 to 2012, Deputy Executive Secretary, as well as the Liaison Officer of the Senegalo-Gambia Permanent Secretariat; before his appointment as Governor of the Central River Region replacing Sulayman Barry in 2019.

Mr Sanyang also served as the Head of President’s Empowerment of Girls’ Education Project (PEGEP), under former President Jammeh, and also served in the Gambian Embassy in Cuba in a senior capacity. 

Meanwhile, Rohey John Manjang served as the Governor of Lower River Region, before her appointment as the new Minister of Environment, and Climate Change on 4th May 2022.

Sanyang, John and the rest of the new cabinet are expected to take their oaths of office next week
