Deported ‘semester’ arrested for attempted robbery.


Police in the Kanifing have arrested one Gibril Jallow, a 31 year-old Gambian, who was deported from the U.S. last year for allegedly attempting to rob EJ Foreign Exchange Bureau in Kololi, The Point has learned.
The suspect, a native of Sibanor village has been charged with attempted robbery and going armed in public. He was helping the police in their investigation.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the Kololi Police Station, the officer commanding, Serrekunda, Spt. Foday Fofana said the attempted robbery happens at around 15. 00 hours on Wednesday at Kololi New Road.
The suspect, Spt. Fofana added, together with one Alasana Jallow alias (Mike) came to the EJ Financial Service Bureau as normal costumers pretending to change D300 to Euros.
“But when the agent (Tida Darboe) told them she didn’t change dalasis into Euros, the suspect (Gibril Jallow) entered the bureau and  took out a knife and threatened for the agent to hand over the Euros to him otherwise consequences would follow,” he stated.
According to Spt. Fofana, the suspect who was at large also took out a knife, then the agent Tida started screaming and the neighbours started coming.
 According to him, the suspects threatened to stab them.
 “The other accuse person (Alasan Jallow) managed to escape. However, they were able to get hold of Gibril Jallow and disarmed him and then called the police,” he explained.
Spt. Fofana hailed the role played by the community of Kololi in the arrest of the suspect and called on other communities to emulate their efforts.
