A lawyer representing sacked lawmaker, Ya Kumba Jaiteh has applied for an interim order at the Supreme Court to bar the swearing-in of the person appointed by the president to replace her.
Hon. Jaiteh has filed a lawsuit challenging the revocation of her status as a nominated Member of the National Assembly by President Adama Barrow. Her revocation letter did not give any reasons for the dismissal.
Her Lead Counsel, Borry Touray said there is was a pending motion dated 5th March, 2019 that needed urgent treatment, and asked the court to give a notice of adjournment in a bid to address some concerns.
In another development, Touray has filed a motion for the court to issue an interim order to refrain the National Assembly Clerk from swearing-in Foday Gassama as a replacement for Ya Kumba Jaiteh, arguing that if such an order was not issued, other issues may override the entire process.
Gassama, a former United Democratic Party Regional Coordinator for Westcoast has been nominated by the president to replace Hon. Jaiteh.
A five-member Panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Chief Justice Hassan Jallow, adjourned the case to Thursday.
The courtroom was full to capacity, while another large crowd of people gathered outside to follow the case which has been dominating news headlines for the past two weeks
